We will begin with a visit to the underground cities of Kaymakli or Derinkuyu (visit one of them), which were built by Christian communities to protect themselves from Arab attacks. These underground fortresses were sealed with stone doors carved into the rock itself, creating a fantastic defense system. A special ventilation system, consisting of chimneys, allowed air to reach the lowest levels of the cities. The city of Kaymakli was built between the 6th and 10th centuries, is divided into eight levels, and reaches a depth of 45 meters. It contains stables, a church, a chapel with a nave and two apses, large common rooms, meeting rooms, and smaller rooms. The city of Derinkuyu was inhabited around the 7th century, making it older. It has 18 to 20 stories and is about 40 meters deep. It preserves a stable with watering troughs for livestock, a wine-making area, a barrel-arched structure that likely served as a church, water wells, and storerooms. Dinner and accommodation.

We will then continue to the Ortahisar Panorama, which offers a magnificent view with its natural castle at its center, stone houses, and beautiful mosques. From here, a short drive will take us to Paşabağı (Monks' Valley), where we'll see the conical columns, resembling fairy chimneys, which also served as homes and Orthodox churches for hermits. After lunch at a local restaurant (not included) in the town of Avanos, on the banks of the Kızılırmak (Red River), we'll admire some of Turkey's most famous handicrafts.
