Breakfast at the hotel. Visit to the Castle of St. Peter of
Halicarnassus, also known as Bodrum Fortress, the symbol of Bodrum. This
Crusader castle was built by the Knights of St. John between 1402 and 1409.
Today, the castle halls house a museum displaying artifacts from the Bronze
Age, Mycenaean, Archaic, Classical, Hellenistic, Roman, and Byzantine periods.
The castle also houses Turkey's largest underwater archaeological museum, one
of the few of its kind in the world. The museum's shipwreck reconstruction is
well worth a visit. After the castle tour, see what remains of one of the Seven
Wonders of the Ancient World: the Mausoleum. The Mausoleum, the tomb of King
Mausolus, is considered the origin of grand funerary monuments and sumptuous
architecture. Today, you can see the cleared platform and some of the artifacts
from this magnificent mausoleum. The stones were used in the construction of
the castle, and parts of the tomb are on display at the British Museum in
London, England. After the tour of the Mausoleum, depart for the Amphitheater.
Visit the ancient theater. The theater is located on the hill overlooking
Bodrum. Built during the time of Mausolus, it is one of the few surviving
pre-Hellenistic theaters in Asia Minor and, therefore, one of the oldest.
