Breakfast at
the hotel. Stroll along Istanbul's main shopping street, Istiklal, and visit
the Galata Tower. The tower is located in the Galata district, across the
Golden Horn from the old city of Constantinople. Continue to Dolmabahçe Palace.
Built in the 19th century, Dolmabahçe Palace is one of the most glamorous
palaces in the world. It served as the administrative center of the Ottoman
Empire during the later period and was the residence of the last Ottoman
sultan.
After the
founding of the Turkish Republic in Ankara, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk transferred
all governmental functions to the young capital. However, during his visits to
Istanbul, Atatürk occupied only a small room in Dolmabahçe Palace as his own.
He stayed there, received his foreign guests, and transformed it into a
practical center for national, historical, and linguistic congresses, as well
as international conferences. We enjoyed our time in the café shortly
afterward. Transfer to the hotel and overnight stay.
